Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Complies with Federal Law By Providing HIPPA Training Created by Planet Productions

Planet Productions, a custom eLearning company, recently completed work with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), the Northwest's leading education, research, clinical practice and community service facility, to develop relevant training and certification programs for 10,000+ health care employees. The training was prepared in keeping with Federal law mandating that all employees, volunteers and students with access to client records of a major hospital, clinic, or university system be trained and certified regarding new HIPAA regulations.

The hour-long, interactive web-based course includes streaming audio and video, custom animations and interactive exercises to impart critical information about new regulations to employees at all levels, throughout the University system. Users log into the course and identify themselves by answering a series of questions. The proper course for their role is then made available for completion at their own pace in one, or multiple sessions. Accordingly, individuals in the dental school, patient care or medical records practice groups see course versions that incorporate visuals and other content specifically related to their respective fields. Records from HR and student databases are imported daily to the back-end administration tool which provides up-to-the-minute completion and compliancy reports that are available to department managers and other authorized personnel.

To date, over 14,000 OHSU employees and students have completed the course and OHSU reports extremely positive feedback regarding how fun the course was to take and how valuable the information is in helping employees abide by the new laws in their own practice areas. The organization has also copyrighted the course material and is making it available for purchase by other healthcare organizations requiring HIPAA certification. The course was deployed in time for the entire organization to be certified and meet the federal regulation compliance deadline of April 14, 2003.
