Underwriters Laboratories Implements Workplace Safety Training Program Designed by Planet Productions

Planet Productions, a custom eLearning company, has delivered a “Safety in the Workplace” course to the Underwriters Laboratories facility in Camas, Washington.

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an independent, not-for-profit safety testing and certification organization. UL has tested products for public safety for more than a century. The Camas, Washington facility is responsible for evaluating products for safety in design and usage.

Working in tandem with the UL team, Planet Productions designed a program to educate UL's employees about safe practices in a hazardous class-5 facility that includes the presence of flammables, such as explosive gas vapors, exposed electrically charged equipment and radiation. Course objectives include reducing exposure illnesses and injuries, as well as meeting State and Federal OSHA requirements for safety standards. Previously, training was handled through biannual classroom instruction. The online, eLearning version enables information to be immediately available to all employees their first day on the job.

This interactive, web-based safety training program provides critical information about safe practices in the workplace and gives learners the ability to practice and test their knowledge. As employees work through the course and test scores are recorded, supervisors can review online reports detailing completion and test results so that remediation can be handled on-the-job. The safety training course was developed with a reusable framework and utilizes AICC standards to enable easy transition to a future Learning Management System (LMS) that may be implemented. Additionally, the course can be adapted to address additional training needs for each of the company's worldwide testing laboratories.
